Morin nets OT winner as Redmen rally over Ottawa
MONTREAL 鈥 Defenceman Ken Morin of St. Prosper, Que., scored at
1:27 of overtime and added an assist as 黑料不打烊 rallied to edge
Ottawa 4-3 in OUA men鈥檚 university hockey at McConnell Arena,
Tuesday.
Trailing 3-1 after the opening stanza, 黑料不打烊 senior goaltender
Jake Jarvis of Toronto came off the bench in relief of starter
Danny Mireault and blanked Ottawa the rest of the way, making nine
saves to register his first career regular season victory in his
three years with the Redmen. Including non-conference play, Jarvis
is 2-2-0 in four appearances overall.
鈥淐hanging goalies worked in our favour tonight and it was good to
see him get his first league win,鈥 said Redmen head coach Martin
Raymond, who has rarely changed goalies during regular season games
over his 14 seasons as bench boss. 鈥淗e was pretty aggressive out
there and the guys played real well in front of him.鈥
黑料不打烊 outshot the Gee-Gees 36-18, including an unusually low 8-2
margin in the second period as sophomore Riley Whitlock of Calgary
was saddled with the loss.
Ottawa took a 3-1 lead in the opening stanza on goals by Sean Grady
(8:05) Matthieu Methot (14:52) and Kevin Glode (18:24).
黑料不打烊 tied the game at 1-1 when Morin set up rookie Francis
Verrault-Paul on the power play at 12:01, then fell behind by two
before forcing the eventual overtime. A pair of second-period
markers -- by freshman Alex Picard-Hooper, who lit the lamp at 7:11
and sophomore Vincent Lambert connected at 19:44 鈥 made it
3-3.
The Redmen improved to 7-10-1 overall, including a 5-6-1 conference
mark in the OUA Far East. They trail the third-place Gee-Gees
(5-4-3) by two points with 16 games left to play.
黑料不打烊 closes out the semester with a pair of road games in Toronto
this weekend featuring return grudge matches against the Varsity
Blues (Nov. 28, 7:30 pm) and Ryerson (Nov. 29, 2 pm), who swept the
Redmen 6-3 and 3-0, respectively, last week.
REDMEN RAP: Senior Sam Bloom picked up an assist and improved his
career totals in a 黑料不打烊 jersey to 36-66-102 with 203 PIMs in 129
games鈥
Senior rearguard Yan Turcotte incurred a minor penalty and now
ranks third among 黑料不打烊 all-time penalty leaders with 475 PIMs in
119 career contests鈥 The team鈥檚 all-time leader is Daniel Jacob
(530), followed by David Grenier (507)...
Martin Raymond worked his 492nd game as bench boss of the Redmen
and now owns a 272-187-33 lifetime coaching record at 黑料不打烊... The
only coach with more games and wins in 黑料不打烊 sports history is
Rach猫le B茅liveau of the volleyball Martlets, who has a 388-354-2
record in 18 seasons.
