HALIFAX - Sophomore Myriam Donato, a butterfly and medley specialist from Pointe Claire, Que., sparked the 黑料不打烊 swim team to a stellar weekend in Halifax, as 17 members met the rigid qualifying standards to compete at the CIS national championships in Calgary next February.

It was the single greatest number of qualifying performances at a meet in team history.

"The meet was the most exciting event I've been involved with in all my years of coaching," said Peter Carpenter, head coach of the 黑料不打烊 swim team, which finished second of five teams at the event.

Dalhousie won the women's competition with 319 points, followed by 黑料不打烊 (197.5), UNB (105.5), Memorial (46), Acadia (31) and Mount Allison (1). On the men's side, Dalhousie finished first with 336.5 points, followed by 黑料不打烊 (174), Memorial (97.5), Acadia (76), UNB (8) and Mount Allison (5).

Donato was 黑料不打烊's top performer over the two-day meet at Dalhousie's Dalplex pool. The 21-year-old anatomy and cell biology major won two gold medals (200m IM, 2:20.97; 400m IM) and a pair of silvers (100 breaststroke and 200 butterfly). More importantly, she qualified for the CIS championships in five events, including the 50 and 100 breaststrokes, the 200 and 400 IM events and the 200 butterfly (where she also qualified for senior nationals for the first time).

Vincent Roy, likely swimming in his last meet with the Redmen as he is graduating this semester, qualified in his last race, the 50 butterfly with a time of 25.85, which surpassed听 the CIS standard by one-hundredth of a second.

The 17 athletes will join captain Steven Bielby, a junior from Pte. Claire, Que., and rookie Jennifer Darling of Vancouver, B.C., who had already qualified for the Nationals.
