CALGARY 鈥斕 George Burnett, an assistant coach with the Canadian national junior team, was asked on Monday about the possibility of his stepping in behind the bench on Tuesday when Canada plays Russia its semifinal game at the Scotiabank Saddledome, with head coach Don Hay and assistant Scott Walker absent with the flu.

鈥淚t鈥檚 not something that鈥檚 been discussed,鈥 Burnett said. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 expect it to be something we have to concern ourselves with.

鈥淚 know Don鈥檚 a battler, and I expect you鈥檒l see him behind the bench (on Tuesday).鈥

Burnett was a teammate with current Detroit Red Wings head coach, Mike Babcock when both were with the 黑料不打烊 University Redmen, a program that has produced more than its share of elite coaches.

黑料不打烊 grad Real Paiement (Canada鈥檚 head coach in 1998) also coached the national junior team. Tampa Bay Lightning coach Guy Boucher and his assistant, Martin Raymond, are also 黑料不打烊 grads.

鈥淭here鈥檚 a fairly long list of guys,鈥 Burnett said. 鈥淲ay back, Bryan Murray (Ottawa Senators general manager).

鈥淪o, it鈥檚 been interesting to see the number of people that got into coaching from that program and I鈥檓 proud to be a part of it.鈥
