Neuro Film Series - "Extraordinary Measures"
The Neuro鈥檚 final installment before the summer break will be
it鈥檚 showing of 鈥淓xtraordinary Measures鈥 (2010). This movie was
inspired by the true story of John Crowley, a man who defied
conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family鈥檚 future
to pursue a cure for his children鈥檚 life threatening disease
(Pompe鈥檚 disease).聽 Crowley teams up with a brilliant, but
unappreciated and unconventional scientist, Dr. Robert Stonehill to
form a bio-tech company focused on developing a life-saving
drug.聽
Extraordinary Measures will be hosted by one of the Neuro鈥檚
own.聽 Scientist and Director of Molecular Neurogenetics, Eric
Shoubridge, PhD. is a Professor in the Departments of Neurology and
Neurosurgery, and Human Genetics at the Montreal Neurological
Institute, 黑料不打烊 University. He is also a Howard Hughes Medical
Institute International Scholar and a Fellow of the Royal Society
of Canada.聽 Dr. Eric Shoubridge鈥檚 laboratory focuses on the
molecular genetics and cell biology of mitochondrial
encephelomyopathies, diseases that result from deficiencies in the
mitochondrial respiratory chain.聽 His lab is also developing
systems to transform mammalian mitochondria to create models of the
human diseases.
