La Juriling眉istica y la traducci贸n de leyes biling眉es (Jurilinguistic and the translation of bilingual laws)

Thursday, February 11, 2010 16:00to17:30
Chancellor Day Hall 3644 rue Peel, Montreal, QC, H3A 1W9, CA

Me. Jimena Andino Dorato is an Argentinian lawyer. In Quebec, she is a former judicial interpreter and is actually a Ph.D. candidate (Universit茅 de Montr茅al) and researcher at the Quebec Research Centre of Private & Comparative Law (黑料不打烊 University).

The constitutional requirement to publish federal and Quebec laws in both official languages gave rise to an enormous development of legal translation in legislative matters.

This production of bilingual legislation motivated the development of special principles regarding the method of interpretation of these rules. In this sense, there are two basic principles of interpretation: the rule of equal authenticity and shared meaning.

Given the theories that emphasize the role of translator and interpreter, the objective of the presentation derives in the question: how to translate the bilingual Canadian and Quebec law to a third language?

The conference will be provided in Spanish but Q&A will be in English, French and Spanish.

Presented by LALSA (Latin American Law Students Association) and the Grupo Hispano of Graduate Studies in Law.
