Item 5: Yashi Huang
Green Banana Flour
Green banana flour is considered to be a potential ingredient of
food because of its functional values. In this seminar, an overview
of green banana flour will be given. There will be four sections:
sources of green banana flour, its functional value, production
methods, and future work.
......Yashi was born in Shenzhen, a coastal city of southern China.
She finished her undergraduate studies in Food Science and
Engineering at South China Agricultural University and is now
working on her Master's degree under the supervision of Professor
Raghavan in Bioresource Engineering.
Item 6: Abid Hussain
Microbial Fuel Cells
Microbial Fuel Cells (MFC) offer a new approach to energy
generation in a sustainable manner from biodegradable compounds.
They can use complex organic compounds and are considered to be
suitable for waste water treatment. Although the technology is
promising, there are still some serious limitations which need to
be addressed before this technology can be considered as
economically viable.
Abid Hussain finished his Master鈥檚 degree in Bioresource
Engineering in 2009 and is now working on his PhD under the
supervision of Professor Raghavan.
Item 7: Deepika Arumugam
South Indian Marriage Ceremony
The marriage ceremony in southern India is an auspicious occasion.
It consists of a number of rituals which each have their
significance. Although there are several different types of
marriages celebrated in southern India, in this seminar the Brahmin
marriage will be presented. This is a two-day family
function.
Deepika Arumugam is from India where she obtained her Bachelor of
Technology degree in Industrial Biotechnology from the Government
College of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She is currently
pursuing her Master's degree in Bioresource Engineering under the
supervision of Professor Vijaya Raghavan.
